It all started in 2016 at John Jay in our Africana Studies class when Javon would come in late to every class. We had only seen each other in passing at our respective sorority and fraternity events. However, I would get to class early and hold a seat for him every class. We began to talk after class and then he asked me out on a date. We went out on a few more dates before Javon went to law school in Pittsburgh and we began our long-distance relationship. He then returned to New York and we made sure to see each other every weekend. It is surreal how far we've come since then.

The Wedding & Reception
1. Can I bring my child?
Unfortunately, although we would love to have your little ones at our wedding, we
cannot accommodate them all.
2. Can I bring a date?
Again, we cannot accommodate everyone–although we would love to! This
wedding is invite-only.
3. What time do the festivities start?
Ceremony: 4 PM at the Gazebo
Cocktail hour: 5 PM above the Blue Lagoon
Reception: 6 PM at the Blue Lagoon.
Please do not be late!
4. What colors do I have to stay away from?
Ladies, please refrain from wearing burgundy, gold, white, or champagne. Guys,
wear whatever you want–Javon does not care!
5. What type of attire do I wear?
At least cocktail attire.
6. Will the wedding be indoors and outdoors?
The ceremony will take place outdoors and the cocktail hour and reception to take
place indoors. Please note that the venues may be a bit part from each other so be
sure to wear comfortable shoes!
7. Where will the festivities be held?
The ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception will all be held at the Grand Palladium:
https://www.palladiumhotelgroup.com/en/hotels/jamaica/jamaicamontegobay/gran
d-palladium-jamaica-resort-spa.
8. What food will be served?
We will be having Jamaican food at our wedding. If you have dietary restrictions,
please let us or the hotel wedding staff know.
9. Can I request songs to the DJ at the wedding?
No! However, if you are absolutely dying to hear a song that has not been played,
please let us know.
10. Should you rep your country?
YES! We would love it if everyone could bring a small flag from the countries they
(or their parents) are from. It does not have to be a big flag–a handkerchief size
will suffice.
11. Ugh you have a lot of demands, do I need to learn patois (or anything else) for this
wedding?
Absolutely not! However, we would love if you join us on the dance floor when we
dance to popular Jamaican, Afro, and Soca dances (e.g. Jerusalema, Fling Your
Shoulder, and Dollar Whine).
